The MODES workshop summary report entitled "Normal modes of atmospheric variability in observations, numerical weather prediction and climate models" has been accepted for electronic publication in the Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society (BAMS).

Original message from December 2015: MODES team wishes you a wonderful holiday season and a happy new year

February 2016: We decided to keep it alive through the rest of 2016 to cheer your day

May all your modes work in harmony!

error growth

A new methodology for the analysis of atmospheric predictability based on the modal decomposition is developed and applied to the ECMWF operational ensemble prediction system.

The workshop associated with the normal mode function  representation of  the atmosphere and its application in numerical weather prediction and climate research was held at the National center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado 26-28 August 2015.

Madden-Julian Oscillation

A new method for the three-dimensional multivariate decomposition of the Madden-Julian Oscillation into balanced and inertio-gravity components is published in August issue of GRL. The paper is fully accessible at
