MODES webpage has been updated on 28 November.  

The setup for the modal decomposition of ECMWF model analysis and 10-day forecast has been changed and now it involves 134 levels. The top three levels above 5 Pa (around 3.8 Pa, 2.5 Pa and 1 Pa) have been excluded in order to eliminate any signal associated with a potential extrapolation above the model top over that may occur the orography. The outputs are only slightly affected.  

On 28 November a new visualization was also implemented . The NCL graphics is now used for all plots. 

An example shows  balanced winds in the tropics in the ECMWF forecast initialized on 30 Nov 2016.
